Shonishin= Children's Acupuncture In working with children, I utilize a very gentle Japanese style of Pediatrics. I rarely insert acupuncture needles, as most of my tools have smooth ends that are stroked, rubbed, tapped, or lightly palpated, and children often recover quickly, whether with cupping to relieve a cold, to reduce irritability, aid in digestion, to soothe asthma, or difficulty with sleeping or stress, these gentle treatments often support a path to health.
When this young boy first arrived at my clinic door, he stood VERY seriously, and inquired, "You aren't going to use those POKEY things, are you?" When I replied, "NO WAY!", and I brought him into my treatment room to see my "non-pokey" tools, he happily declared, "That's not pokey at ALL".
In Japan, Children are often treated at Shonishin clinics during the week of the full moon. These clinics frequently fly brightly colored flags with frogs or other animals to remind families that THIS is the Day for the Children. These monthly treatments support wellness, and may aid in treating illnesses such as asthma, chronic cough, catching a cold, nasal congestion, respiratory infections, sinusitis, colic, allergies, "kanomushi" (night terrors, irritability, & behavioral issues), insomnia, digestive problems, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, cow's milk sensitivity, abdominal pain, eczema, dermatitis, hives, ear infections, bedwetting, constitutional weakness, swollen lymph nodes, teething, vaccinations.
I encourage Parents to bring their child to my office for treatment as soon as possible after vaccinations, because these gentle shonishin treatments can quickly reduce the negative impact of the vaccination.
